Orkney Held Me Close and Blew Me Away was created from a watercolour sketch I made during storms at the Ring of Brodgar in Orkney, Scotland during the month of February. The colours were amazing but floated in and out of vision. I love the way storms create both haziness and clarity – they make it hard to see and focus the mind, but also when you do focus on something it’s a kind of hyper focus that burns into your consciousness and memory. Everything is at once hyperreal and yet shielded from you. I like the idea that you become enclosed in a storm, and whilst feeling battered and at peril your world also shrinks to a much smaller place just a few feet around you (although always changing, swirling, moving).
This original artwork is on two box framed canvases, strung, signed on the rear by the artist and ready to hang, with the painting continued onto all sides.
