Ballymeanoch Stones II

16 x 20″ (50 × 40 × 4 cm)
Original Acrylic On Canvas

Inspired by a field sketch I made at the Ballymeanoch standing stones, Kilmartin, Argyll, Scotland in bright spring sun. I wanted to show something of the colours of the day and give an impression of the stately, slender nature of the stones.

This canvas of the Ballymeanoch stones shows the complicated neolithic structures that you can see if you visit Kilmartin Glen. The name Ballymeanoch comes from the Scottish Gaelic Baile Meadhonach which means the middle settlement. Their construction is thought to date back to over 4000 years ago.
