I am a charity shop lover! I love a rummage, I love a bargain, I love finding something unique and special that I couldn’t buy elsewhere.
My mum taught me the art of charity shopping when I was a kid. I had all sorts of treasures from charity shops… like a set of tiny 1950’s evening dresses that wouldn’t fit anyone else who tried them, but did fit my 13-year old frame, strings of semi-precious beads, vintage Sindy doll furniture, old kids encyclopaedias and vintage cookbooks.
As an adult I rarely pass one without popping in for a look – which was why I was so delighted when local charity Highland Hospice opened a new store in Dornoch, near to where I live.
Highland Hospice have made a huge effort to style the shop with a bright and airy look and vintage theme. The walls are painted sunny yellow and are adored with decorated tailors dummies and vintage mirrors.
They succeed in filling the shop with enough stock that you feel you’ve an exciting choice, but not so much as you aren’t able to find things easily – it’s a tricky one to get right.
There’s always something great to be found too – whether your interest is in vintage clothing, high-end mens suits and accessories, fine knits and cashmere, vintage homewares or ladies designer clothes or shoes…
I was delighted this trip to come away with a little vintage suitcase – complete with 1920’s hotel label – which I’ll be using to store some of the clutter in my bedroom (stood next to my new vintage dressing table).
So if you are in reach of Dornoch in the Highlands of Scotland and love a little charity shopping (or any shopping!), I highly recommend making a beeline to this little shop of treasures! And let me know what you find!
