This piece was based on one on a tiny collage I made, which I used as inspiration for this bigger painting.
I had in mind a modern take on Victorian specimin collectors, boxes of treasures… I collected items from around my home and studio to make the collage, and I wanted to keep this ‘pieced together’ feeling in the finished painting – although also working towards an overall harmony.
Various techniques were used to build up interesting textures and marks, as well as rubbing back the canvas at various stages.
