Process Series

2011 – 2012

This series came from my love of the physicality of painting, and my desire to explore more deeply the process of how I create. These paintings formed a series in the truest sense, where I actively took an element of the previous work in the series, and explored it further in the next – creating a chain of creative events.

A landscape oriented painting in mixed media on canvas, with a gentle white ground. Expressive, energetic charcoal lines dance around the canvas creating a sense of movement. They are most heavily weighted to the bottom right. Around them are colourful brushed marks in ochre yellow, pink and lilac-blue, adding texture and more movement to the piece. The effect is softly energetic.

A very tall elongated canvas with abstract mixed media painting on a soft white ground. Wandering, graceful, fluid charcoal lines effectively form a stretched figure of eight shape, with the bottom section twice the height of the upper part. Around the lies are brushes marks in shades of both cool and warm greens. The effect is harmonious, restful and painterly.
