12 x 32″ (30.5 × 91.5 × 4 cm)
Original Acrylic and varnished charcoal on a deep edge box frame canvas, with the sides painted white.
This painting is the 3rd in a total of 7 original paintings in the process series. This particular series came out of a love of the physicality of painting as well as a desire to explore more deeply the ‘process’ of how I actually create an abstract. It resulted in my putting my own creative processes under the microscope.
I would usually have a theme or a certain inspiration at the beginning of the painting process but with this series, I made a decision to follow my instincts fully on painting one canvas and I then took selected elements from each of the paintings into the next, and so on, creating a chain of painting ‘events’.
It has been very interesting how the elements that I had not considered, such as the changing of light and seasons, or the places that I have been and my mood have found their way into the paintings in a quite discernable (although totally unconscious) way. These paintings have also fed into more representational landscape work that I have been working on in a separate project.
Original on a deep edge canvas with the painting continued onto all sides, signed on the rear and ready to hang.
