Callanish Detail, February 2012

18 x 24″ (46 × 61 × 4 cm)
Orignal painting – acrylic on box frame canvas, with the sides painted white.

This painting was begun in the old farmhouse beside the Callanish stones (Isle of Lewis, Scotland) and completed back in my studio. I spent a week in February 2012 studying the astone circles and beautiful landscapes of the West Coast of Lewis, and this piece features a section from the main Callanish site.

The painting reflects the weak Winter sun and cold winds on the day I began painting it. The place is magical and ambiguous on any day, but especially so out of season and in wold weather.

On a carefully finished, deep box frame canvas, with the sides of the canvas painted white. Signed and ready to hang. Dispatched with certificate of authenticity.
