From colour sketches made at the Bay of Skaill, Orkney in Winter. I wanted to give something of the feel of the sweep of the bay, the rolling of the waves, and the scattered, fleeting nature of what I was viewing owing to the wind and rain that was battering me as I worked.
On a deep box frame canvas, with the painting continued onto all sides. Signed on the rear, and ready to hang.
For those of you not familiar with Bay of Skaill it is a small bay on the West Coast of Orkney in Scotland and it is the location of Skara Brae, the famous neolithic settlement. The Bay is also linked to the Skaill Viking Hoard which was found in March 1858.
