The 5th painting in the process series. This series came from my love of the actual physicality of painting, and also my desire to look more deeply the ‘process’ of how I create an my abstract paintings. I wanted to place the microscope over my own creative processes.
Rather than having a particular inspiration or a certain theme at the beginning of the painting process, I made a concious decision to just follow my instincts on painting one canvas. I then decided to take an element from each of the paintings into the next, and so on, thereby creating a chain of painting ‘events’.
For me it has been extremely interesting how various elements that I had not considered have found their way into the paintings in a subtle and unconcious way. For example, the changing of the light and the seasons, my mood on that particular day and the places that I have been. This series of paintings have also fed into more representational (for example: landscape) work that I have since been working on in an entirely separate project.
Original on a deep edge canvas with the painting continued onto all sides, signed on the rear and ready to hang.
