I’ve always been interested in poetry (and time-to-time tried to jot a few lines), but after I began to feel the effects of my brain injury, I was encouraged to find ways of building ‘gym routines’ for my brain – so I turned to poetry as a way of giving my language centre and memory a regular workout. Though no one thing is ever the answer, I truly believe it’s helped.
Most of what I pen is nonsense or goes nowhere, but I enjoy the habit of writing and the states of mindfulness and reflection it brings. Every now and again, often after tinkering for weeks (a word here, a comma there), something falls into a form where I feel happy with what Ive produced.
