2022 -2023

As I’ve been slowly learning about geology, and then taking that book knowledge out into the Scottish landscape to see the real-life examples, I’ve been absolutely blown away by the way that rock can bend, curve, melt, distort, stretch, compress, thrust and interact in strange ways with other rock units.

And so, over time, it’s inspired me to try to recreate similar types of plastic deformation in my digital workspace – taking stripes of colour and deforming them into pleasing formations. Arguably I’m sometimes am taking this a little further that Mother Nature does in her creations, but that’s abstract inspiration rather than representational art.

Every the maximalist, I’ve also played with merging two such creations together, to see what interesting interactions I can create (colour palette and repetition of colours has been the magic tool to stopping these becoming oppressively busy.
